P2N directories

Content of the \P2N-V2\ directory :
Directories

  • Patent2Net : directory with the program files (Errors Logs: runtime errors, the executable files).
  • DATA: directory that contains all the results of P2N:
  • REQUESTS : directory for your_request(s).cql to be executed. To retrieve the patents of a domain, you must adapt your own your_request(s).cql file and copy it in this folder.
  • SaveReq : directory for the stock of *.cql.

Files

  • index.html : page which display all the results of P2N.
  • CollectETraite.bat : to execute P2N with the *.cql in the REQUESTS directory. Can be running via the command prompt (cmd) or double click.
  • Cles-epo.txt : the key given by EPO. Follow instructions on the link Downloads & Installations
  • P2N_Version(2)30-Jan-2017.info : P2N version. Used to report a bug, or last version verification
  • dex.js : contains the list of cases, update by P2N on each “run”

Mozilla FireFox is the mandatory browser.

Requests elaboration - P2N configuration

Before using P2N, it is better to learn about patent and how to search patent information

P2N use the same “common query langage (CQL)” as “smart search” of Espacenet database.

Test your request here

Build your configuration file (*.cql), adapting any of the *.cql file in the \P2N-V2\RequestsSets directory with wordpad or Notepad++.

Save the file with the extension “.cql” and copy in the P2N-V2\REQUESTS repertory. This directory must contain the only *.cql files that P2N has to proceed.

run P2N! With the file “\P2N-V2\CollecteEtTrait.bat” : double click or activate in a command window.

After running the \P2N-V2\DATA\ directory has another subdirectory with the name you have provided for the Datadirectory parameter in tour cql file. You will see also a html file with the same name, that is the start point for your data analysis.

The "DATA" directory

Once the execution launched, a sub-directory will be created in the repertory “DATA” (corresponding to your DataDirectory parameter in your cql file). The DATA\DataDirectory\: contains all the data and results in conformity with your .cql file:

You will find the set of graphs Gephi, patents metadata in the “PatentContent” and the resume of collected data in the page “index.html

Analysis tools online

In this page, you have informations about the request :

  • Name of repertory
  • Request used
  • Number of found patents
  • Families
  • Date of recovery of data

In this part are explained the different tools used to process and visualize collected data :

  • DataTable : Shows the list of patents collected in table format with all metadata of patents (Country, Title, Inventor, Applicant, IPC …). You have the possibility to delete or add fields through the “Show / hide columns” button. Also, you can scroll the list of results of patents by buttons Next, Previous, First, Last.

  • PivotTable : Shows the bibliographic data of patents about you request and you can choose the variables and the visualisation (heat map, histogram, curve …) you want to use . You have also the possibility to change colors of graphs, font size of title …

  • Origin country of inventors and applicants : Cartographies in a worldmap origin countries of inventors and applicants concerning collected patents.
  • Networks graphes (Inventors, Applicants, Technologie) : using just one variable
    • Inventors network : displays the relation between inventors who worked on the same patent
    • Applicants network : displays the relation between applicants which worked on the same patents.
    • Technologies network : displays the technological fields of patents

  • Mixed networks : combining many variables
    • Technologies-countries network : shows the speciality(ies) or technological field(s) of countries (what contries work on what)
    • Technologies-Inventors : shows the experts on one or many fields (who works on what)
    • Technologies-Applicants : shows the society which are expert in one or many fields (who whorks on what)
    • Inventors-Applicants : shows the relations between inventors and applicants (who whorks for what society)

  • References, quotes, equivalents :
    • References networks: displays patents who cited other patents or exterior references (newspapers, revues …). There are two kind of networks :
    • Outdegree : complicated patents which use one or many other patents for improvement or new vesion)
    • Indegree : important patents, key patents
    • Quotes networks : displays quotes about patents
      • Indegree : patents the most cited (patents cited by other patents)
      • Outdegree : patents which quote the most (patents which quote other patents).

→ It used Google and PageRank algorithm which measures qualitatively the website's popularity (a website quoted by a person or another website)

  • Equivalent networks : networks patent which have the mosts equivalents (traduction, version)
  • Patents family : shows the list of families patents
